Son to Father

A fatherless child falls on his face,
While son of man tastes wine in paradise.
Unconscious systemic generational betrayal:
That is, the influence of the childless father;
Reflections of maleness in a negative way.
Dawn is time for the strongest father hunger
President Barack Obama would say,
Stop feeding us cold Popeye’s for breakfast.
Toward manhood the fatherless child screams,
I just want my father back.

The 21st century patriarchal father role:
Beyond Imagez, men look like fools.
The old maxim holds,
Any fool can have a child.
A marginalized sex acting infantile.
In a society ruled by a dark patriarchy
Absentee fatherhood blinds the community:
Absent fathers present an intractable problem,
Afflicting an indelible impression on children.

A wise man once told the boy,
Responsibility does not end at conception:
A confusion without a clue for many moons.
Crossing the waters, we see
An epidemic of fatherless families;
Single-parent households:
Weakened foundations necessary
for intergenerational development.

In many ways,
the patriarchy uses and abuses most men.
Men are the disposable sex.
Men pay an exorbitant price
to ’the streets’ for families,
Having nothing left for sons.
Other than traditional ways,
Loving fathers are baffled as to
How to help the sons of man.

Resolved,
co-habitation versus marriage:
Society must renew its interest in marriage.
Father, here I am to pray for you.
Model the image of man;
Father, believe in son even when he doubts self.
Give son boundaries.
Teach son from where he comes,
And how to help future sons of man:
Upstreaming backwords,
To recite a King James verse unrehearsed:
Therefore I urge you to imitate me.
A man never stops looking for a good father,
A man with some flicker of interest in a boy’s future.
